The Drive In (Drive-Thru) Pallet Racking system is a high-density storage solution designed for large quantities of SKU-consistent items that require bulk storage. Unlike conventional pallet racking, Drive In racking maximizes cube utilization by eliminating aisles between selective racks. Instead, several pallet locations are placed in successive lines within a single, deep lane.


Warehouse operators drive forklift trucks directly into these lanes to deposit or retrieve pallets. Pallets rest on structural rails that run the length of the lane. The rack relies on a Last-In, First-Out (LIFO) inventory method. The forklift places the newest pallet directly behind the previous one. Retrieval occurs by removing the last pallet placed, working back towards the entry point. This configuration is ideal for items with high volume but low variety, such as seasonal goods or raw materials with long shelf lives.


Drive-In racking typically offers more storage positions per square foot than standard selective racks by a significant margin. Its construction is robust, utilizing high-strength steel uprights and heavy-duty beams/rails designed to handle pallet loads at depth. Safety features like rail guides protect the structure and guide forklifts. While suitable for trained operators, the design inherently limits maneuverability within the lane.
